About the Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been established in 2009 and the course remains one of the most prestigious and sought after ever since Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments of the institute. It is also one of the biggest departments of the institute with student strength 120. While managing this increased strength which is an urgent need of the nation, department is committed to well being and all round development of its students. The department currently runs the following.
Objective to run these programs is to prepare the manpower that is globally best. Most of the students, who graduate from the department, end up taking leading positions in industry, academia and government in both India and abroad.
It has state of art laboratory facilities along with modern central workshop. The workshop has five major sections namely, fitting, carpentry, welding, foundry and machine shop. It is fully equipped with machines which range from conventional centre lathe to high quality Universal milling machine. The central workshop is equipped with Universal Milling Machine, CNC milling, CNC Lathe, shaper, Planner, MIG and TIG welding Machine and Lathe machines. The department is well equipped with other modern Laboratories like Kinematics of Machines, Dynamics of Machines, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanical Measurement and Metrology, CAD Lab etc. Computer Aided Design Laboratory is equipped with latest software’s. Faculty members of this department are from highly reputed institutes with vast knowledge and experience in this field. They are also actively involved in research activities.
A well functioning research cell has been established to contribute to ground-breaking futuristic research. The department has tie-ups with many organizations like IISC, ISRO, HAL, NAL and other reputed firms to ensure that its students are handed with projects that are technologically and commercially relevant. This well-rounded course is an assurance for a successful career in the future.
The students are also packed with practical hands-on knowledge besides the excellent academics offered by the college. Work-shops and seminars are held where their participation is sharpened with talks delivered by the leading experts in relevant fields. Their understanding of the subject is also honed by the technical papers they are made to present in various conferences.
